Reverend Donald Welmer will officiate at Sunday’s 6 PM funeral service at Chattanooga Funeral Home East Chapel. Sunday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. the funeral home will host a visitation.

As of Friday, January 24, the bounds of this world were broken by the free will of Harbour Grace resident Alexander “Alex” Harris, 74. He stretched his hand to the throne of grace.

His parents, Gerald and Mary Elizabeth, passed away before he was born.

Denise Harris Keough, her husband Thelma Harris, their two sons Brian and Glen (Jesselyn), and their five grandkids; two brothers, Edward and George.

In addition to Harbour Grace and her sister Mary Harris, numerous members of the IBEW, Local 353 and other family and friends attended the memorial service.

Per Alex’s request, his remains were cremated. Harbour Grace’s Noel’s Funeral Home will host the service. His final resting place is St. Paul’s Anglican Cemetery in Harbour Grace.

He was born on December 29, 1950, in Habersham County, Georgia, to William Henry Harris, Sr. and Mary Louise “Doodle” Wood Harris.

Alex, a 1979 North Georgia Technical College graduate from South Habersham High School, served in the United States Marine Corps in Vietnam. In his 36-year career at Habersham Electric Membership Corporation, he served as an Engineering Supervisor.

Alex ran River’s Edge on the Soque as part of his business as a professional fly fisherman. With the Healing Waters Ministry, as well as helping veterans learn to fish, he volunteered his time. On December 29, 1950, he was born in Habersham County, Georgia, the son of the late William.

Henry, Sr. and Mary Louise “Doodle” Wood Harris are the parents of Henry Jr. Having graduated from South Habersham High School in 1969, Alex went on to earn a degree from North Georgia Technical College, and he enlisted in the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. At the time of his retirement from Habersham, he served as an Engineering Supervisor.

The Electric Membership Corporation has been serving the community for almost 36 years. There, Alex was able to share his expertise as a professional fly fisherman with others through River’s Edge. In addition, he served as an ambassador for the organization.

Healing Waters Ministry hosts a weekly fishing trip for veterans. The most important aspect of Alex’s character was that he was a godly guy who was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. At Hillside Baptist Church in Cornelia, he served as a deacon for many years.

Cremation was requested by Alex’s family. The funeral ceremony will be held at Noel’s Funeral Home, Harbour Grace, for a private gathering. St. Paul’s Anglican Cemetery, Harbour Grace, will be the site of his burial.
